Had the session of the year today at Hayling! Can't stop grinning!

Got the train out of London town at 1.20pm as planned, jumped in my van at Bearsted station with the gear already packed , and raced down to Hayling as fast as I could. Got there at 4:30, a couple of hours before low tide, and met up with Grawp, Andy and Kirk who had been down the beach since dawn, and had already done 3 hours sailing that morning. Sounds like they'd had a tough time though, with the wind very up and down necessitating a couple of re-rigs. Don't think I missed too much....

Anyway, when I arrived it was blowing, but not honking, so I rigged a 5.8 and stuck it on the Rocket 61. The first few runs were quite marginal, and I was struggling to get on the plane, but then the wind filled it and I was totally powered up, and bloody overpowered at times actually. But what a laugh! I had some screamingly fast runs out to the break at the end of the bar and had a play on the waves out there trying to jump and ride the swell, both of which I sort of managed to do, but in a very small way! But I had such a blast drag racing against Ed and Kirk, and just feeling more confident about be sailing than I have ever done before. Each time I go out I seem to build on what I learned in my last session. It feels great, as I used to watch people sailing on the waves out on the sand bar and wished I had the confidence and the ability to be out there. Today I was, and I'm chuffed! also had fun crashing today - I was going full tilt totally overpowered at carve gybes, and was getting 3/4 round then exploding - but coming up smiling!

Today was just perfect - perfect wind, beautiful evening sun, small waves to play with, some flat water on the inside for blasting, and a bunch of mates to share it with... rounded off with a chilled out Guinness in the Inn on the Beach watching the sun go down! It doesn't get much better than that....! I'm a happy man!
